What should you know about masks
Types of mask
Masks currently on the market include disposable medical masks (flat masks), medical surgical masks, ordinary masks, elastic earband masks, N95, KF94, children's masks, youth masks, and so on.
Disposable medical mask
It is daily use. The bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) of disposable medical masks is ≥95%. This type of mask is suitable for ordinary people to use when they are not in contact with patients with fever, cough and other symptoms. Generally, it is enough to wear them when going out or taking public transportation.
Ordinary masks, also called face masks, are loose-fitting disposable devices. Different masks have different uses and thicknesses, have different protective effects on people, and have different wearing comfort levels.
Medical surgical mask
It is available to the hospital. The bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) of medical surgical masks is ≥95%, and the particle filtration efficiency (PFE) is ≥30% (non-oily particles). This type of mask is suitable for the hospital environment. It is recommended to wear it when you have long-distance contact with patients with symptoms such as fever and cough more than 3 meters when you go to the hospital or visit patients.
KN95 medical protective mask
Medical protective masks can filter most microorganisms and can resist splashes of blood and body fluids to a certain degree. The outer surface has a certain degree of waterproofness and high adhesion. Its particle filtration efficiency is ≥95% (non-oily particles). It is generally used when professionals come into contact with patients with respiratory infections.
The KF94 mask is a standard made by South Korea. According to the data on the official website of the Korean Food and Drug Administration (MFDS), the mask under this standard has a filtration rate of more than 94% for particles with a diameter of 0.4μm. In other words, the KF94 standard mask can filter out at least 94% of particles with a diameter equal to 0.4μm.
Disposable children's mask
Disposable children's masks are changed every day. The summer vacation is about to end, so put up masks for the children who are about to start school. Under normal circumstances, it is sufficient to use disposable masks to change once a day. It is necessary to choose a children's mask of the appropriate size. The specifications are large (L), medium (M), and small (S). Teach children to press the metal strips on both sides of the nose bridge with both hands when wearing the mask, so that the upper end of the mask is close to the bridge of the nose. Stretch the mask downwards without leaving any wrinkles.
Which mask has the best protection effect
The standard surgical mask is divided into 3 layers. The material of the outer layer is non-woven fabric
, which can prevent liquid splashing. The material of the middle layer is melt blown cloth
, and its function is to filter, which can block 90% of the 5 micron particles. The material of the inner layer is also a non-woven fabric, which is used to absorb liquid and moisture released by the wearer. If worn properly, surgical masks can prevent droplets, sprays or splashes of large particles containing viruses and bacteria from entering the nose and mouth. It also helps to reduce one's own saliva and respiratory secretions splashing on others, thereby preventing other people from infecting them.
The N95 mask is actually a respirator, which is a kind of respiratory protective equipment. Compared with ordinary masks, the design fits the face more closely and can filter the particulate matter in the air very effectively. Among them, N means Not resistant to oil, which can be used to protect non-oily suspended particles. 95 means that the filtration efficiency is greater than or equal to 95%, indicating that after careful testing, this respirator can block at least 95% of very small (0.3 Micron level) test particles. If worn correctly, the filtering capacity of N95 is better than that of ordinary masks and medical masks mentioned above. However, even if it is worn in full compliance with the requirements, it cannot 100% eliminate the risk of infection or death. KF94 is similar to KN95. They are all masks under the same level of protection, but they differ in their protection capabilities.
Many people will ask about the safety of mask production. Of course it is safe and hygienic, please feel free to wear it.
The production process of masks is mask forming → pressing → trimming → breathing valve welding → ear strap spot welding → nose bridge line fitting → breathing valve punching → packaging → sterilization → analysis (EO sterilization) → finished product. Generally, the production of masks is in the sterile workshop.
Do I have to wear a mask every day?
Of course you have to wear it. At present, many people infected with the new coronavirus are asymptomatic, but they already carry the pathogen and are infectious. The other is the incubation period of infection before the onset of symptoms, which can be as short as 5 days and as long as 14 days. Even those patients who become infectious at the end may have spread to other people before they become ill. Therefore, the first step to prevent and control the epidemic is to wear a mask when going out to isolate the spread of the virus.
